Portable heaters in the workplace this winter need to comply to PAT regulations

November 29th, 2009

In the winter your business buildings get colder.  It is an unfortunate fact that your central heating system is more likely to break down during the cold months than in the summer, simply because it is used more.  The temptation is to relieve the cold using portable heaters; however, you need to be aware that any portable electrical appliances used on business premises needs to be certified as complying with Health and Safety Executive standards on appliance testing known as PAT.

Electrical PAT testing is not expensive and if you contract the right PAT testing company then it can all be done on your premises.  When the appliance testing is done, each electrical appliance is given a certificate that shows it has been passed as safe.  As 25% of work accidents involve electrical appliances then the regulations are sensible.  It is also sensible to get your portable electric heaters tested and certified before you need to use them.  If your workplace gets to cold then you may end up in the position where you have to close and send staff home; that is far more costly than making sure everything is OK to use.

Don’t forget it is all portable electrical appliances that need to be certified not just heaters.  For your PAT testing services take a look at PAT-Pro at http://www.pat-pro.co.uk/this is an excellent company with highly qualified staff who are quick and efficient.  Get safe, get PAT tested.

Portable Appliance Testing

October 29th, 2009

Current health and safety regulations require us, as employers, to make sure that every portable electrical device that is used within our business is now tested and authorised for use.  Although this can be seen as just another thing for us to have to do along with all the other things that seem to come before just getting on with business, when you consider that 25% of all accidents within the workplace are caused by electrical faults, you can see the point.

Luckily we have found Pat-Pro, a company which will actually come out to your premises, within the UK and undertake all your portable appliance testing on site for you, with as little disruption to the working day as possible. Once tested, by their fully qualified staff, the appliance is given a sticker which demonstrates that it has been passed as safe, the date of the test and all the other information that you need to comply with the legislation.  They couldn’t make it easier.

Obviously, before you get them out you need to know how much it is going to cost.  Pat-Pro can give you a quote in minutes over the internet.  Just log on to www.pat-pro.co.uk and once you have the quote you can arrange for their testers to come to your site at a convenient time for you.  As they have staff based throughout the UK it will be simple.

Make sure you meet the new Health and Safety regulations and keep up to date with any new electrical regulations with Pat-Pro we are sure you won’t regret it. Contact Pat-Pro for more information.
